OUR THOUGHTS

At SUBBITT, we understand that a social networking/bookmarking site is not the code, the layout, the look, features, or feel. These things are important, but they DON'T make the site what it is. It's the PEOPLE that use the site, plain and simple, and as such, our goal is to provide a unique environment where the Users are treated with respect and dignity... where the collective voice of the user base has just as much a say as any CEO in when, how, and why things change, evolve, and adapt as the site grows.

We also treat content as content, which means that there is no delineation between the written word, pictures, video, images, or podcasts. It's not that we couldn't have done it this way. It would have been much easier to do so. The fact is, we all have our preferred methods of learning and absorbing material... some people are thought oriented (written), some aural (sound), and some visual, etc. However, by treating content as content, you never know when you might just come across a story, image, video, or podcast that is intriguing that you may not otherwise be exposed to if content were categorized.

OUR FEATURES

We've used the most popular sites, and incorporated many of the best features of each in a way that gives you a myriad of ways to find and promote the content you like. We've incorporated a popular tag cloud. Clicking on any tag will give you the submissions that use that tag. We have a robust search engine THAT WORKS. You'll also see lists of related content that may be of interest to you. Want to see what your friends are up to? Clicking on your Crewlist will give you several ways of seeing what they've submitted, voted on, or commented on, simply by clicking their name or image. In fact, you can see what ANY user is up to from any page.

Submissions are also augmented by autoembedding. Video urls for Veoh, Metacafe, YouTube, Google, Yahoo, IFilm, College Humor, Revver (and more to come!), automatically embed the video into the submission. MP3 encoded podcasts are also autoembedded by the direct url, and also link to the site in which they are embedded from. So are jpg, gif, and png images. The "teaser" views also include a thumbnail or image to indicate what kind of material is embedded in the story.

No "buries". A submission can never be buried. It may go popular, and then get voted down into the ether, but it will still be popular. How that reflects upon the submitter...well, that's another story. And no tricky algorithms for popularity... just a straight vote. Do be aware that all activity is tracked, and abusers will be dealt with accordingly. And speaking of abusers... our robust Karma system deters spam bloggers AND trolls by utilizing User Roles which give or take abilities and privileges depending on a user's karma.

We're not claiming that SUBBITT is perfect... far from it. But we do have the mechanisms in place that will allow the site to change and evolve so that it DOES get better and better because of YOUR suggestions, comments, and feature requests.
