As I noted earlier, Chrysler was planning to add wi-fi to the list of distractions available in cars, in addition to text messaging / email, reading, putting on makeup, talking on cell phones, and the like. They've now announced that the increased distraction will begin on August 25th, when 2009 Chrysler models will be able to get this option.
The presidential candidates may be touting a gas tax holiday, but Chrysler is offering new car buyers a card that locks in the price of gasoline and diesel at $2.99 a gallon for three years.
I understand, it would be great if I were a passenger to be able to link my laptop to in-car wi-fi and use it while riding in a car. But we can't even keep drivers from text messaging or emailing via smartphones without laws, so what do you think is going to happen now? Do we really need an additional distraction in vehicles?
