A BSOD of Olympic Proportions

Most of us who have used a Windows PC know what a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) is. Well, there could be no more perfect timing for a BSOD than this. Right when Li Ning was rounding the lip of the Bird's Nest during the climax of the torch-lighting ceremony, someone snapped this photo of the familiar BSOD most of us have seen at one time or another.

Windows for Workgroups 3.11 to Finally Disappear

Talk about cannibalizing sales from Windows Vista. It's bad enough Microsoft has to worry about XP doing that, but ...

All right, all right, obviously I'm just kidding. And yes, you read that right. Windows for Workgroups (WFW) 3.11 is still being sold. Microsoft is selling it in the Embedded Channel.

Microsoft Joins the OLPC Project

We've known for some time that Microsoft was working hard at getting Windows XP slimmed down and running on the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) XO-1. They've apparently succeeded as on Thursday Microsoft and the OLPC Foundation announced an agreement that will make Windows XP available on XO laptops.

Microsoft Plans a "Senior PC"

The U.K. wants to get the last 1/3 of its citizens online, and that's clear from the National Digital Inclusion Conference currently being held in London. As part of that movement, Microsoft U.K. is working on a so-called "Senior PC" which will feature a simplified user interface.

Microsoft's Windows juggernaut is collapsing as it tries to support 20 years of applications and becomes more complicated by the minute. Meanwhile, Windows has outgrown hardware and customers are pondering skipping Vista to wait for Windows 7. If Windows is going to remain relevant it will need radical changes...."Windows is too monolithic."

Wine Approaches 1.0 Vintage
